Lord Howe is becoming very well known for the strong winter winds. The breezes are generated by intense low pressure systems that pass to the south of the Island on their way between Australia and New Zealand. The prevalent winds in winter are from the SW to the NW. The fronts come through with great regularity giving a great score rate for high wind slalom & bump & jump.
The best time for these winds is generally June, July, August and September.

From November to the end of summer the prevailing winds are from the East, although the lagoon faces West, the Easterly wind funnels down the airstrip and makes for fantastic sailing.

Ask a regular visitor to Lord Howe their impressions and you will find 'it's windy' is a phrase that keeps popping up!

The great thing is that if there is any wind to speak of, LHIWindsports will have the 'weapon of choice'.
